An Excited Crew Outside The 2021 College World Series

The final destination of the Summer 2021 road trip was in Omaha, Nebraska for game 12 of the College World Series (CWS) where University of Texas would be facing off against Mississippi State. From the start of the day there was a strong chance of rain in the afternoon as we had been dumped on in western Nebraska the night before. All the same, we raced towards TD Ameritrade Park and the nearby Hilton Garden Inn Downtown with positive thoughts for a dry evening. The drive through Nebraska took longer than expected due to the wants and needs of clients before arriving in downtown Omaha.

Everyone was beyond excited to finally make it to Omaha so we checked into the hotel, got freshened up, and started walking towards the game. Much more Mississippi State maroon filled the streets than the burnt orange of Texas on the stroll over and we were soon surrounded by tailgaters. Upon reaching the stadium we learned the game was a bit delayed so instead of roasting in the sun the gang rolled over to The Old Mattress Factory Bar & Grill for some shade, brews, and mouth watering burnt ends. An old purse was sacrificed to the security guards, due to it not being see through, as we entered the crowded ballpark. The seats were a few rows back from where the grass meets the dirt along the third base foul line, which provided a up close view of the action.

The game started of quick with Texas scoring a tying run to make it 2-2 in the top of the second, a go ahead run in the fifth, and two runs in the seventh to make it 5-2 with Mississippi State scoring their only in the first inning. With a tired Texas pitcher loading the bases the home team scored three runs to tie the game at 5. From the children's perspective the game went from somewhat dull because Miss. St. wasn't scoring to a nail biter that head everyone on their feet. Not to be outdone, the top of the ninth was good to Texas with a three run homer that would seal the deal right as a storm rolled in and a delay was called in the middle o the ninth inning.

Attending the College World Series in person was an incredible experience that is well worth planning in advance for. The planning of the Summer 2021 roundtrip was influenced, in part, by the CWS and date we wanted to be in Omaha. Staying and working from the Cornhusker State to enjoy more of the games is definitely on our list and we look forward to returning to that friendly city.
