Today would be a long day of driving as we rushed Eastward to make it to Omaha for game 12 of the College World Series. This post will briefly touch on the positive experience we had in Pinedale, how much we would like to return, pitstops in Southern Wyoming, including info on the Oregon Trail and Wind River Range, with a final pit stop in the State Capitol of Cheyenne, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Pinedale, WY happened to be the town we stopped in for the night following a delicious dinner in Jackson and we were pleasantly surprised when we woke up to find an interesting town with a strong history that is considered a Gateway to the Wind River Range. While the range has several allures, locals in Sheridan specifically warned travelers against spending too much time on the Wind River Reservation due to high crime rates. With no ultimate destination in mind for the night we sped east across Wyoming with tawk of super computers and healthcare applications filling our ears.
On the route, in a remote rural area of Farson, WY stood the Sweet Water Smoke barbecue hut that served some grade A food and comes highly recommended. This gave everyone a great opportunity to stretch their legs and support the local community.
A stop was made in Cheyenne with a relaxing dinner at The Albany for some home cooked food before briefly exploring Wyoming's Capito. The area around the Capitol building was quaint with a statue of Bill Gollings, affectionately known as the Cowboy Artist. Following the stop, the kiddos laid down in the back of the Subaru and hunkered down with "Maleficent" playing in the background. The Subaru finally stopped for the night in an unknown town in western Nebraska. Morning came early of what would be a long day that started with rain and ultimately ended with rain in Omaha after an exciting game 12 of the College World Series.
